BALLET

Ballet technique is considered to be the basis of training for all types of dance.  Ballet helps develop strong bodies, improve coordination, and retain flexibility.  At Dance Legacy, many hours of ballet training are spent learning the correct foundational steps and positions. Proper terminology and vocabulary are also taught along with flexibility training, and movement technique.  As students advance, leaps, turns, physical expression, and pointe work are added to their basic ballet foundation.

JAZZ

Jazz is fun and energetic and consists of unique moves, diverse footwork, big leaps, and quick turns. It focuses on students' posture, flexibility, grace, and balance.  Our jazz classes begin with a warm-up and lead into a series of stretching exercises. Our students are taught proper jazz technique by practicing various isolation movements across the floor as well as how to flow through various positions by learning a short series of combination steps.

TAP

Tap is a fun, challenging, and rigorous form of dance that requires a great deal of physical fitness. It builds aerobic strength and increases muscle control.  At Dance Legacy our tap classes focus on learning single tap steps, then incorporating those steps into a series of combinations. As students become more proficient they learn increasingly difficult steps, patterns, and combinations that accentuate the melody of music rather than just the basic beat.

LYRICAL

Lyrical is a more contemporary form of dance that combines many technical elements of ballet with the freedom and airier aspects of jazz. Teaching students to use body movement to express the emotions of a musical piece such as love, joy, or anger. Each class begins with a warm-up and includes a short instructor taught combination; then all students are given an opportunity to use both emotion and technique during a period of improvisational dancing.
